I will be starting as a Tenure-Track Faculty at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS), where I will lead the SPIN research group.
My research interests lie in the intersection of computer architecture, computer systems, high performance computing, and sustainable computing. My current research focuses on the hardware/software co-design of emerging applications, particularly AI/ML, with modern computing systems. I design solutions across the entire system stack, from software down to hardware, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as processing-in-memory and disaggregation. My work targets improvements in performance, scalability, programmability, and sustainability.
I am also collaborating with Prof. Onur Mutlu and the SAFARI research group at ETH Zurich. I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Toronto working with Prof. Andreas Moshovos, Prof. Gennady Pekhimenko and Prof. Nandita Vijaykumar. I received my Ph.D. from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where I was a member of the Computing Systems Laboratory and I was advised by Prof. Georgios Goumas, Prof. Nectarios Koziris and Prof. Onur Mutlu. During my PhD studies, I had received a PhD award from the Foundation for Education and European Culture, and a PhD Fellowship from the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) and the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI). I hold a M.Eng. equivalent degree from ECE NTUA, where I graduated in the top 2% of my class.
I am looking for motivated researchers and students to join my research group at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS). If you are interested in doing research with me, check out our hiring page and feel free to reach out (christina.giann@gmail.com).
